Jodi Picoult Literary Lunch at The Grand Hotel, St Annes

So Tuesday the morning after the day before, we had a brilliant appointment with a gorgeous bride and then to The Grand...

Sally and I had been invited to our very first literary lunch, we were very honoured to be sat on the top table, we were very privileged to be sat with the literary icon and brilliant author Jodi Picoult, and she is the top women’s selling author in the UK and probably the world.
The lunch was organised by the brilliant people at Silverdell Book Shop in Kirkham in association with Lancashire Life Magazine.
The room was jam packed with ladies and gents all of whom received a hard back copy of her very latest novel “Handle with Care” a book that I just can’t wait to get stuck into. Every single person had their book signed and an opportunity to ask personal and specific questions which were answered with care and thought, very impressive from a lady who is on a whistle stop book signing tour, on Wednesday she was due to talk in Glasgow and Thursday another city and so on.
Jodi is inspiring, hardworking and a superb orator, I felt quite awe struck at meeting with her, her fabulous novel “My Sisters Keeper” will soon be released as a movie starring Cameron Diaz, apparently the ending has been altered which is such a shame that twist at the end really got to me.
I thoroughly enjoyed her presentation, she is undoubtedly focused and motivated to tell a great story her technique is similar to method acting, meticulous investigations and research, meeting and living with real people whose lives mirror those of her utterly believable characters.
Elaine & Sue from Silverdell brought along a huge stack of her other books which again were signed , I was given one of her early novels that features a florist “Mercy” with a very personal inscription, some days you just feel blessed and this is one of them.
Both Sally and I had the most wonderful afternoon, we shared it with new and old friends and we’d like to say a really huge thank you to Elaine & Sue from Silverdell for making it all possible.

We also managed to send a lovely cheque off to our friends at Trinity Hospice on the Fylde from the proceeds of the table flower raffle so many thanks also to those of you who generously bought raffle tickets.
You will be able to read about this brilliant event in the very next issue of Lancashire Life.
